This Morning

This morning is no time for mourning
There’s no meaning in being punished over and over
Go quickly to the source of anger
Cut it out and then resume singing.

This morning is no time for drowning
There’s no point in not swimming in and for Spring
Do not hold grudges like a corrupt king
Be who you are and be proud you are living.

This morning is full of the stout sun
Your father would not want you limping
As if evil could deprive you of fun
And you would give up and stop fighting.

This morning proves Summer is coming
It’s breeze is from the recovered South
It’s shimmering light comes from knowing
That Good is at the source of its mouth.

This morning is the reason you’re living
Without it you wouldn’t be around
There wouldn’t be just one sunny sound
Understand but conquer your pain and resume giving.

This morning is not playing games
It knows the difference between ladies and dames
It’s got God’s will to fulfill
There’s a time to be ill and a time to be thrilled.

Hard In Tennessee

Sure had me fooled in Tennessee
Made me feel it was so easy
Bless my heart,
It’s hard in Tennessee.

Tennessee has many a-queen
I was hardly seen
In the scene
I played in Tennessee.

On 40W at 153
I drew the three of spades
They thought I had Aids
Three days straight in Tennessee.

In Tennessee, many-a-bell is rung
Within 24 hrs., five new laws were sprung
“Nashville is Heaven”, the law sung
Oh my God, I was nearly hung.

They stole my Dodge in Tennessee
Oh, they dodged my Dodge in Tennessee
Only a Greyhound had my key
I said farewell to Tennessee.

The Cruel Must Take The Blame

No honey, you don’t have to spread for me
I just want your pleasant company
I just want you to listen to me
And hear my sad testimony.

A friend of mine says I shouldn’t generalize
About the women in this land of paradise
Well, I just talk about my experience
And it’s making me lose  my patience.

They say what goes around comes around
There have been times I almost drowned
The cruel must take the blame
For interfering with the eternal flame.

Belle was the first to go
When I was feeling low
I wanted her to stay loyal
But she thought she was royal.

Ellen would come and go
And wasn’t afraid of any foe
But her love was so mild
And she aborted our child.

They say what goes around comes around
There have been times I almost drowned
The cruel must take the blame
For interfering with the eternal flame.

Carin was my wife
And we had too much strife
She could never get enough motion
She also had an abortion.

Sheila thinks she’s so cool
With her Marijuana stool
She took me for all she could
For awhile I was her fool.

They say what goes around comes around
There have been times I almost drowned
The cruel must take the blame
For interfering  with the eternal flame.

Chris and Leslie took me for a ride
Copping out when I had to hide
I wasn’t perfect; but they weren’t friends
They were just keeping up with the trends.

I still love Dolores and always will
But she just wanted me to pay the bill
She didn’t come through when the chips were down
That fearsome time that I was out of town.

They say what goes around comes around
There have been times I almost drowned
The cruel must take the blame
For interfering with the eternal flame.

Of late, there’s been those blind dates
And they’ve been giving me more of the same
I’ve been thinking it’s just not my fate
To find a special tame mate.

So yes, my friend is right
I have nasty things to say about gals
But I hope with all my might
That you and I can still be pals.

They say what goes around comes around
There have been times I almost drowned
The cruel must take the blame
For interfering with the eternal flame.

We’re Going To Make It

The sun is shining everywhere
I love you and your golden hair
The sky’s a precious baby blue
Your silky skin’s a delicate hue.

It wasn’t always like this
There’s a lot we did miss
But the Redwood’s deep in the Earth
And you have had a splendid birth.

We’re going to make it
We won’t be beat
Our life’s a hit
It’s one big treat.

There are those that would pull us down
And they’re still creeping around
But the water has never been calmer
God is the greatest farmer.

We’re growing better every day
It always seems like a gentle May
We’ve passed every test
We’ve conquered every pest.

We’re going to make it
We won’t be beat
Our life’s a hit
It’s one big treat.

Touching you is the greatest pleasure
You will always be my special treasure
No one can steal me away
By your side I will stay.

Beauty embraces us
We will always trust
Our love will conquer all
We will always stand tall.

We’re going to make it
We won’t be  beat
Our life’s a hit
It’s one big treat.

Sweet Talking Me

News gets around about all of us
I got all the headlines regarding you
I heard about what you did to Rusty
Now don’t go sweet talking me.

You laid out a black blanket
That didn’t keep me warm
You brought only harm
Now don’t go sweet talking me.

You promised me the world
But I’m just getting old
The cold is seeking through the bone
Now don’t go sweet talking me.

Now I’m getting up from a fall
The world is so tall
I’m lost in a mall
Now don’t go sweet talking me.

I’m So Glad You Are Here

I just can’t say any more
And I don’t want to
The Dove’s on a soar
The Rose is clinging to its dew
I’m so glad you are here.

You’re with me and that’s all I care about
What’s good for you is good for me
There’s eight days in a week & no hours in a day
The mores & folkways are changing for good
I’m so glad you are here.

This morning looks like a twilight
But the Hummingbird is getting kissed
There’s bright pictures of bright moments
And there’s the fact that I love you
I’m so glad you are here.

Tumbling & stumbling & grumbling …
Oh, that’s something of the past
I see that any Oasis is God Himself
An Elephant doesn’t forget, but he does forgive
I’m so glad you are here.

Torture is when I’m not in love
And don’t have you to touch
Torture is when you’re away
And the day rebels against even May
I’m so glad you are here.

It’s Going To Be Just You & Me

We’re going up to the country
To be free among the trees
We’re going to see the colorful leaves
It’s going to be just you & me.

We’ve earned a little beauty
We’ve worked hard everyday
We’re going to go all the way
It’s going to be just you & me.

The News has been making me tired
The wrong people have been hired
Let’s take advantage of our fee
It’s going to be just you & me.

Let’s leave behind the everyday problems
Let’s ignore all the competing emblems
Let’s go up there and really see
It’s going to be just you & me.

I mean a man’s got to see God’s glory
Nature’s mountains are holy
We need the country’s mercy
It’s going to be just you & me.

I want to hold you like never before
Kissing each other should never be a chore
Let’s be each other’s country baby
It’s going to be just you & me.

Thorned

Ten drums hidden in orange purple moments
Are in an orbit around my bleeding nose
They pound out common time
And paint walls around the poles
Of my longing hands.

I don’t enjoy their beating
What I’m saying is
That the girl I love
She’s up and gone
Beyond the poles of my caresses
And the feel of my poem.

Sixteen velvet violins of spring
Singing summer to my soul
Offer me Gibran-brewed wine
But my hands feel just plain crippled
And my face turns wings to tears:
The girl I love has up and gone.

Nine pintos at a railroad crossing whine out danger
And I must decide if it’s safe to cross
But I ain’t sure I want to know:
my poem is fading
The girl I love has got the colors
But she’s gone.

Ten drums pounding/sixteen violins singing
Nine pintos whining danger
But my hands are crippled
And the train whistles/the train passes
Rose is on it
My love couldn’t hold her.

Baby, There’s Just Five Miles More To Go

Sure has been a long hard road
Everyone around us has been torn
But baby, keep your eyes on the sky
For you know it never lies.

From the start of this journey
We knew we would suffer
But the sky’s given us its key
And we don’t have to go much further.

Baby, there’s just five miles more to go
Then we’ll have our happy home
Yes, there’s just five miles more to go
Then we’ll have our happy home.

The trip could have been better
It could have been worse
We overcame many-a-curse
And we’re right there on the border.

We were hungry; we were thirsty
We saw people fall like flies
But baby, we’ve been chosen
To learn and teach a lesson.

Baby, there’s just five miles more to go
Then we’ll have our happy home
Yes, there’s just five miles more to go
Then we’ll have our happy home.

The kind people’s pain was the hardest to take
When it comes to love, there’s so much at stake
Why must the gentle fall victim to poison?
Why did the farmers have such a hard season?

There’s no easy answer to any tough question
We traveled to see with our passion
We’re getting closer to our goal
Then we can work on our soul.

Baby, there’s just five miles more to go
Then we’ll have our happy home
Yes, there’s just five miles more to go
Then we’ll have our happy home.

Reality almost took us down
Just one hundred sad miles ago
I’m so glad you’re without a frown
Even though we’re still facing a foe.

We know what we’ve seen
We know a nightmare from a dream
Here, by the side of the road
We’re still carrying a heavy load.

Baby, there’s just five miles more to go
Then we’ll have our happy home
Yes, there’s just five miles more to go
Then we’ll have our happy home.

The truth is on our side
Even though we almost died
We’ll get our message through
To more than just a few.

Freedom is what we bargained for
And we’ll always pay the price
Baby, look, an eagle soars
We’ll overcome the war.

Love’s Winning

“You’ve been very productive,”
She remarks astonished
At Neptune’s singing sea
And I know Love’s winning.

Grateful to every trend
Millions of buggies in the Sands
Joshua won’t forget his name
After all, it’s a matter of fame.

“I’ll call,”
She’s in control
Why do I love the perfect crime?
Because I know Love’s winning.

Do I hear from her or not?
Do I get lovesick at night?
Do I still greet the dawn?
I don’t really care about your lawn.

“I expected to go to a movie,
And I didn’t expect to go to bed,”
She mentioned in the morning
With her brain’s wheels speeding.

I know Love’s winning
Because I’m smiling
I know Love’s winninng
Because tears were streaming.
